I have been wearing or using the Songbird Ultra Hearing Aids for 4 days now.  I wore them to work today and a couple people commented on them.  I often forget I am wearing them. 

This ongoing assessment written for Middleagedwoman.com is not a professional scientific review, but a personal assessment based on personal use.  Take my opinion for what it is worth. I hope it is helpful.

Here are my comments from the past 5 days.  These first comments are a little more negative:

1. The tube going into my ears is very small and almost not noticeable.  The problem with the one on my right ear is it sticks out.  The left one seems to contour my face better.  I am not sure why.
2. The part that goes in my ear is comfortable. I wish it was a little bigger so it did not slip out easily.  It does not come out completely but it would be nice if it was a little snugger.  This may help with #1.
3. The volume control is easy to turn but it is not marked so it is hard to determine how high you are turning up the volume.  This is a minor complaint.
4. When I turn up the volume high, I get quite a bit of feedback.  It does stop but is annoying while putting it on.  When I put my hand next to my ear it squeals.  I however am using it at a lower volume usually.
5. I seem to notice my tinnitus a little more now that I have worn it, but this may be coincidental. 
6. I still misunderstand words when my kids talk to me so I am not sure if it is working.
7. When I turn up the volume, the sound seems a little echo especially when I talk but it does not bother me.  It is more apparent with my own voice.  It is kinda cool.  I sound like one of those guys from the old V series.
8. I have to test the sound boost more.  At lower volumes it just seems to magnify the background noise. 
9. To turn it off you have to open the battery holder.  This is okay when  I am going to bed at night, but not as convenient during the day.  Not a big deal for me though.

Now here are some positives.  .

1. When I put the volume up a little higher, I can hear things in more detail.  For example, typing on the keyboard right now, I can hear the clicking of the keyboard in much finer detail
2. Today, when I walked out of the office, I heard a noise and ws startled because I thought someone was walking up to me.  It was actually someone about 15 feet away going down the other part of the hall.
3. The batteries seem to be lasting for a while.  I have had them on for about 12 hours per day for 3 days now and shorter time on the other days.
4. I find the Songbird Ultra pretty comfortable.  It is very easy to put on and take off.
5. I do not feel like my ears are plugged at all. 
6. I have been using the Songbird Ultra at pretty low volume so I may not be getting the true benefit.  I think I will try to use it at higher volume.
7. The sounds are not hollow sounding unlike the cheaper analog amplifiers.

Okay, so this is the end of Day 5.  So far, I give the Songbird Ultra Hearing AId a thumbs up.  I will keep testing it and updating this site.
